Red Herring Productions is thrilled to announce the Central Ohio premiere of the romantic musical Romance/Romance by Barry Harman and Keith Herrmann, just in time for Valentine’s Day. The show will run from February 5 through February 14, 2015 in the Vern Riffe Center’s Studio Two in Columbus, Ohio.
The show consists of two independent one-acts that explore the themes of love, romance, attraction, identity, and infidelity. The first act, “The Little Comedy”, tells the tale of a man and woman in 19th century Vienna who assume false personas to escape their aristocratic boredom and then face the complication of having fallen in love while in disguise. The second act, “Summer Share”, tells the contemporary story of two longtime friends who wrestle with their mutual attraction despite being married to others.
This often overlooked musical (it bowed the same season as Phantom of the Opera and Into the Woods) was nominated for five Tonys in its 1988 Broadway run and Red Herring’s production will be the Columbus premiere.
Red Herring’s production will star the husband and wife team of Nick and Kate Lingnofski, two of Columbus’ best musical performers, who will be performing romantic leads opposite each other for the first time onstage. Dan Burleson and Ashley Woodard will support them in multiple roles in each act. All four performers were previously part of Red Herring’s acclaimed 2013 production of Assassins.
In addition, Red Herring returns virtually all of the key artistic personnel responsible for Assassins, including Director John Dranschak, Musical Director Pam Welsh-Huggins, Costume Designer Debbie Hamrick, Lighting Designer Jarod Wilson, Scenic Designer Michael Herring, and Sound Designer Dave Wallingford.
The production will run eight performances over two weekends, opening February 5 and closing February 14. Performances are at 8pm Thursday through Saturday both weekends and 2pm matinees on Sunday February 8 and Saturday February 14. Tickets are available for $20 in advance by calling 614-723-9116 or will be available for Pay-What-You-Want at the door.
With a continuing nod to our pioneering friends at Available Light Theatre, Red Herring believes in making live performance accessible to all who are interested, regardless of their means. All previously unsold tickets are available as Pay-What-You-Want tickets at the door for each performance.
The Box Office will open ONE HOUR prior to each performance, in the lobby of the Studio Theaters on the 4th floor of the Vern Riffe Center. Cash, check, or charge.
