About The Franklinton Playhouse

Red Herring Productions established the Franklinton Playhouse out of its commitment to community and its dedication to Franklinton development. Emerging theatre and performance artists need a venue in which to produce their work and Franklinton needs an economic engine that will draw customers to the neighborhood and stimulate growth. By converting 8000 sq ft of clear span warehouse space into an 80 seat theater, state of the art theater with a yoga, pilates, and dance studio, Red Herring Productions and the Franklinton Playhouse will be simultaneously accomplishing both objectives. Initial projections indicate that in its first year the Franklinton Playhouse will draw 10,000 people to the neighborhood that otherwise never would have come to Franklinton.

This Is How We’ll Do It

Red Herring is establishing a creative consortium of emerging theatre and movement artists who will produce and present their work in the Franklinton Playhouse. As these artists develop their work they will also be developing and building their audiences and gaining organizational capacity. Larger audiences will stimulate the demand for neighborhood restaurants, bars, and galleries. By partnering with Red Herring and the Franklinton Playhouse, community stakeholders can leverage that demand to attract retailers and restaurateurs by providing them with access to markets that are currently beyond their reach.
